In June, Hungarian radiologist Janos Telek (36) and his family packed their belongings and set out for a new life in Norway. Together with his wife, Zsofia, and their four children, they have now settled in Bodø.

Better work-life balance
Janos Telek completed his medical degree in 2013 and finished his radiology specialization in 2018. After several years working in Hungary, both he and his wife began to wonder whether life in another country could be a good fit for their growing family.

– One of the main reasons we considered moving abroad was to have more time with our children. For some, money is the most important thing, but for us, the balance between work and family life matters most. It quickly became clear that Norway was the right choice for us, says Telek.

A smooth relocation process
In September, Janos started working as a senior consultant radiologist at Nordland Hospital in Bodø, where he quickly became part of a welcoming team of both Norwegian and international colleagues.

– I have been very well received at the hospital in Bodø. The working conditions are excellent, and I have the privilege of working with friendly and skilled colleagues. Our everyday life here is exactly what we expected when we decided to move. It has been a very positive experience for our family, Telek shares.

The family discovered Bodø and its job opportunities through Dignus Medical, a recruitment agency specializing in healthcare professionals.

A well-planned move
It didn’t take long from the first meetings with Dignus Medical until the relocation process was in full motion for the Telek family.

– We visited Bodø for the first time in December last year and were quickly convinced that this was the right place for us. I am very satisfied with the whole process and, most importantly, with the life we have built here. We have a great work-life balance, a safe environment for our children and breathtaking nature. Bodø perfectly suits our lifestyle with four young children, says Janos.

A long-term decision
Before settling on Norway, the family carefully considered several other countries. An important factor was that Norway also offers strong career prospects for Zsofia, who is a trained doctor. For now, she is at home while awaiting her medical authorization approval – a process that takes time, especially with four children to care for.

– We started this process many years ago and spent a long time deciding where we wanted to move. A decision like this is not just for the short term – we think long-term. We are confident we made the right choice, and we plan to stay in Bodø for many years, Janos explains.

The family has already settled well into the local community and Norwegian culture.

– We want to integrate as much as possible, and we receive great support from helpful colleagues and the local community, says Telek, adding:

– Some people say Norwegians can seem reserved or cold, but that has not been our experience at all. We find them to be warm, welcoming and open.
